"Hi, this is Chelsea from Essentials Medi Spa, a division of Dr. Trevor Brooks Plastic Surgery. I’m going to go over a few of our Frequently Asked Questions about Belkyra Chin Fat Treatments.

Q: Is this the stuff Khloe Kardashian used under her chin?
A: It is made by the same company, Allergan, but in the USA it goes by the name Kybella. Whether you look up to the Kardashians for your cosmetic look or not, this product is the first and only Health Canada approved injectable treatment for the improvement of fullness under the chin. It is not only for the ladies; it is just as popular among men as it is among women.

Q: When will I see results and how long will my results last?
A: Belkyra is intended to enhance your look; it is a gradual improvement where most people see visible slimming in just 2-4 treatments (spacing of treatments must be no less than one month apart and up to 6 treatments may be administered). Once the desired results are achieved, re-treatment is not expected.

Q: What is the Belkyra Treatment like?
A: The treatment will require a bit of pre-planning for social downtime of about 2-4 days. Social downtime means common side effects like swelling, bruising, pain and numbness are expected and no word of a lie... you may feel like you have a turkey neck as it is taking effect. However; we have been told by the Allergan training team that the more you swell and if you experience that turkey neck feeling, the better it is working. Most people have said the "giggle feeling" peaks within 48 hours and then begins to improve each day afterward. It feels worse than it looks. Side effects are worst after the first treatment and less after each subsequent treatment. This treatment is great for Fall/Winter when scarves/turtlenecks might be a good option.
Prior to administering Belkyra, your doctor or RN will apply ice/cold packs, a topical numbing cream, and/or injectable local anesthesia (e.g., lidocaine) to make you more comfortable. You may be instructed to take a Tylenol/aceteminophen before your appointment.
The injections take about 15-30 mins and are done with a very fine needle. The number of injections required decreases for your subsequent treatments, and so too does the price. In clinical trials, pain was felt right after treatment, but decreased rapidly within 15 mins. You may apply ice or cool packs off and on after treatment as needed and continue with your Tylenol.

Q: Won't the skin under my chin just become looser if the fat is broken down?
A: Studies showed that the treatment does not make the skin under the chin to become looser; instead, skin laxity either remained the same or improved.

Q: How much does a Belkyra Treatment cost? A: The first 2 treatments are $1200.00 each, and any additional treatments needed are $900.00 each.

Q: Can I book for my consultation and treatment both on the same day?
A: No, for this particular treatment we require you to book a consultation first to determine if you are a good candidate for the treatment or not. The reason we do that is that not everyone is a good candidate, and we don't stock the product. We don't want to have a treatment appointment booked for 60 mins, and then realize after the 15 min consultation that it shouldn't be done. As much as we like breaks, a 45 min break is a bit too long, and we'd rather optimize our appointment schedules. We don't stock the product because we know it can get to us in 2 days time, so if you are ready for treatment, we can order it very quickly; thus, we don't have to watch our expiry dates as closely. "
