Chemical Peels

Chemical peels help remove damaged outer layers of skin on your face to achieve a healthy, youthful appearance.

What is a chemical peel?

A chemical peel treatment is designed to resurface damaged or aging skin with specific chemicals applied by one of our skin care specialists. The specialist’s goal is to help your skin appear smoother and balance the tone of your skin.

There are variations of chemical treatment options available and the best one for you is determined during a consultation beforehand with our skin care specialist. Some treatments work as a superficial peel that will target the outermost layer of skin with a minimal peeling experience. There are also deeper level peels that are intensive treatments for more dramatic results. One should expect redness and significant peeling from a deeper-level peel.

Chemical peels are most often a stand-alone treatment, but a gentle peel can be an add-on with a dermaplaning treatment! The appointment time for a chemical peel typically takes 45 minutes, if it is not paired with another service.

Although we can perform chemical peels during the summer months, we recommend that you take extra care after the treatment in protecting your skin to avoid further pigmentation or sun damage.

How long do the results last from chemical peels?

The results will vary depending on your skin and your at-home skincare regime. We will help prepare you for the best outcome possible by providing you with pre and post-care instructions and also recommending products from our Alumier MD, or DMK Skincare lines that can help maximize results from your peel(s).

Number of Treatments

This depends on the treatment option chosen by our skin care specialist. It will be reviewed during your consultation, so you know what to expect.

Chemical peels pair well with:

    • Use of AlumierMD or DMK home care products 10-14 days prior to your peel is recommended to prepare your skin, allow for better results and reduce the risk of complications.

    • If you are lactating or pregnant you cannot have a chemical peel.

    • Avoid sun exposure and/or tanning beds for at least 2 weeks prior to treatment.

    • Avoid the use of retinoid products (i.e. retinol, Retin A®, Tazorac®) and high levels of AHA and BHA products for approximately 7 days prior to treatment. Consult your physician before temporarily discontinuing the use of prescription medications.

    • Our skin care specialists suggest a free consultation before any treatment.

    • Once we establish which chemical peel is the best treatment for you and the current condition of your skin, we prepare you for the peel with a soothing, relaxing cleanse.

    • The specialist will apply the peel selected for your treatment- some are only one layer while others require 4 or more layers. Depending on the peel selected, you may feel tingling or warmth over the skin where the peel is applied.

    • It is important to note that your skin must be overall healthy at the time of the treatment. If the skin is broken, infected or inflamed, we cannot perform the treatment until your skin barrier is repaired with pre-treatment calming products.

    • When your treatment is complete we will provide you with post-care instructions.

    • Depending on the treatment, one can expect to peel for 3-5 days for light to medium depth peels and for 7-10 days for deeper peels.

    • Treatments may cause slight redness, tightness, peeling, flaking or temporary dryness.

    • Most clients do not find it necessary to apply makeup, as the skin will either be smooth, dewy, and radiant following the treatment, or peeling and the makeup will cling to the flakes & make it look worse.

    • Avoid direct sun exposure and excessive heat.

    • Only use the products provided to you in the post-care kit for 5-7 days.

    • Keep your skin hydrated.

    • Do not cleanse your skin on the evening of your peel.

    • Do not pick or pull any flaking skin.

    • Do not tan or use a tanning booth for at least 14 days post peel.

    • Do not have electrolysis, waxing, threading, or any other form of hair removal for 7 days post treatment.

    • Do not use facial scrubs or mechanical forms of exfoliation for 14 days post peel.

    • Do not use retinoic acid, AHA, BHA for 14 days post peel.

    • Do not use laser hair removal, photofacials, or microdermabrasion for 14 days post peel.

    • Do not apply ice or ice water on the treated area.

    • Do not use hot tubs, saunas, steam rooms or excessively hot showers/baths for 2 days post peel.

    • Do not go swimming for 2 days post peel.

    • Do not participate in aerobic activities for 2 days post peel.

What to expect from chemical peels

Chemical Peel treatments provided at Essentials Medi Spa

Try a Derma-Peel for the best of both worlds

Combine dermaplaning with AlumierMD’s Renew 30 Peel to gently remove your skin’s outer layers, making the peel’s chemical solution far more effective. It is perfect for sensitive skin types, with minimal downtime.

DMK Pro Alpha Six-Layer Peel is a non-invasive resurfacing peel that reveals a younger complexion by restoring skin back to optimal health. The old damaged skin tightens, lifts, and peels away in 10 days. It is completely customized based on your skin colour, texture, sensitivity and condition.

What is the difference between a facial and a chemical peel?

Receiving a facial at Essentials Medi Spa means that one of our skin care specialists incorporates a combination of therapeutic components to revitalize your skin. This will likely include cleansing, exfoliating, extracting, and masking to deeply cleanse and rid your skin of unwanted oil, dirt, bacteria, and cellular debris. The treatment nourishes your skin and encourages cell renewal. The products used by our Specialists are tailored to your skin type and condition to target your specific concerns and provide the best results.

We consider a chemical peel a more advanced treatment. Our specialist applies multiple layers of an exfoliating solution to the face and neck to help reveal a smoother, brighter, more rejuvenated appearance. A peel will improve your skin texture and tone quickly by removing the top layers of your skin.

Essentials offers these special facial treatments
