Brow Microblading

Essentials Medi Spa is a leader in microblading in Medicine Hat. Microblading is a form of permanent makeup that partially or fully camouflages missing eyebrow hair with the appearance of hair-like strokes using fine deposits of cosmetic tattoo pigment. A microblading treatment is excellent for anyone wanting to enhance their brow game. The results are natural-looking and semi-permanent.

Microblading is a safe procedure when performed by a certified microblading specialist. At Essentials, our microblading expert Sara was certified in 2019 at Eternal Beauty Institute of Medical Aesthetics. Her extensive experience in medical spa treatments leaves her clients feeling youthful and confident.

Essentials Medi Spa provides two options for microblading

Natural Hair Stroke

With this microblading procedure, the hair strokes are designed to blend in with your natural eyebrow hair, giving the effect that the tattoo does not look like a tattoo. Your brows will look flawless with a naturally full look.

Combo Brow

With this microblading procedure, you get the best of the natural hair stroke along with the powder brow technique. You’ll have a feather effect from the hair strokes while adding more definition and dimension with the shading.

How long do the results last from microblading?

Brow tattoos ordinarily last 1-3 years, depending on a client’s lifestyle, skin type and compliance with our aftercare instructions. After your initial procedure, we allow for healing time and then will schedule a touch-up session (if required). Perfect brows are most often a two-step process; we ask clients to allow time for an excellent result.

Cost

First treatment & touch up: $600
Annual maintenance: $250
Minor touch ups: $50-$100

Number of Treatments

After your first treatment, it is typically recommended for a touch-up appointment 6-8 weeks afterwards and then a regular annual touch-up to maintain your results.

Brow microblading pairs well with:

    • We strongly advise you to book your permanent makeup appointment at least 2-3 months in advance of vacations, weddings, and other special occasions. This time frame allows for heal time of your first procedure as well as heal time for the touch up session (if required).

    • Perfect brows can sometimes be a two-step process. Please allow time for an excellent result to be achieved.

    • Fill out the consent form

    • If you have any of the following conditions, please contact our clinic before booking to ensure you are a candidate.

      • Pregnant/nursing

      • Heart problems/take blood thinners

      • Had a recent surgery/have an impaired immune system

      • Seborrheic dermatitis/Alopecia/Thyroid/recent hair loss

      • Skin irritations or Psoriasis near the treated area (rashes, sunburn, acne, etc.)

      • Sick (cold, flu, etc.)

      • Had Botox/or Medical Facial (laser/peel) in the past month

      • Used Accutane in the past 6 months

      • Allergic to lidocaine, benzocaine, or tetracaine (topical anesthetic)

    • Sara, the advanced brow specialist at Essentials Medi Spa, will draw a brow design to give you an idea of size, shape and form.  She will select a colour or personally blend pigment colours to achieve the perfect brow colour for your skin tone, hair color or to correct previously treated and now faded permanent makeup.

    • Once you are pleased with the shape and colour, Sara will apply a topical anesthetic to ease the discomfort.

    • Once you’re numb, she will start the treatment using a sterile, one-time-use very fine blade to deposit pigments into the epidermis. The pigments used in this method are formulated to match your original eyebrow colour and blend perfectly into them.

    • You will notice redness in the brow area for a day or two, and initially, the brows will appear darker (the second day is always the darkest) but not dark enough that it would prevent you from going about your usual routine.

    • Keep the area clean by using a gentle fragrance-free cleanser (Sensi-Calm Alumier MD cleanser samples are available if you need) & water.  Wash hands before washing your face. Use soft cloths and avoid the use of rough washcloths or sponges.

    • Allow eyebrows to completely air-dry before applying ointment.. Once fully dry, apply a thin layer of the ointment provided (rice size amount on each brow). Repeat above steps 1-2 times per day for 7-10 days after treatment.

    • Let any scabbing or dry skin naturally fall off.

    • After 10 days, once the area has healed completely, use sunblock when going out in the sun to stop the colour from fading (Alumier MD sunscreen samples are available if needed).

    • If you need an MRI, inform the technician that you have had a tattoo.

    • Do not rub, pick, or scratch the treated area, as picking can cause scarring and pigment loss!

    • Do not expose your face to the sun and/or tanning beds for a minimum of 4 weeks after your procedure.  Direct sunlight can cause the pigment to change colour while it is healing and can also cause hyper-pigmentation and scarring.

    • Do not use pools, saunas, steam rooms, hot showers and/or hot baths for 10 days.

    • Do not sweat on your face for 5 days. Sweating through or on the brows will expel pigment from the dermis producing poor results.

    • Do not sleep on your face/brows for the first 10 days.

    • Do not apply makeup or skincare products on the treated area for 10 days.

    • Do not tint your eyebrows for 2 weeks after your procedure.

    • Do not use Retin-A/Retinol, Chemical Peels, Laser Treatments, Micro-dermabrasions, and/or lightening lotions to treat hyperpigmentation around the brow area.  This avoidance so close to the brows will help to prevent fading of your brow tattoo.

    • For the first week your eyebrows will appear darker, bolder, and sharper. This is due to natural scabbing and healing and is very common for all permanent cosmetic procedures.

    • After You Have Healed:

      • Brow tattoos normally last 1-3 years or more depending on a client’s lifestyle, skin type and compliance with our aftercare instructions.

      • Exposure to the sun and tanning beds can cause fading and discoloration of the pigment (not to mention AGING/SKIN CANCER, so make Dr. Brooks happy – avoid tanning beds & always wear sunscreen)

      • Always apply sunscreen SPF 40 or greater on brow area (once completely healed).

      • Maintain removal of unwanted brow hair outside of your tattooed brow design by tweezing, threading, waxing, or the use of a razor.

      • Do not do laser around your brow area (IPL). Some lasers may change the color of the pigment.

      • Additional brow makeup application may still be required post tattoo to achieve your desired look.

      • Yearly touch ups are recommended to maintain your results.

      • Avoid using chemical skin exfoliants on the brows and forehead area. Use of these products will cause premature fading and tattoo discoloration.

        • Examples of products to avoid may include but are not limited to: Glycolic Acid, Hydroquinone, Retinol, Retin A, Vitamin C, Basically, avoid all “peels” or “brightening” products along the brow area

Brow Lamination

The hottest new trend in the brow industry is brow lamination, and Essentials Medi Spa is happy to offer it in Medicine Hat. Brow lamination transforms your brows into full, fluffy “supermodel” brows. It’s a chemical process that breaks down the inner protein chains of the hair to allow your brows to be sculpted and lifted in the desired direction. This procedure is excellent for thin or thick brow hair, and if you have “unruly” brows that grow in different directions, you’ll love how brow lamination tames your brows and offers you a fuller, fluffier texture!

How long do the results last from brow lamination?

You will see the immediate results after your treatment, and those results will typically last 6-8 weeks (an entire hair growth cycle) as long as you commit to the after-care instructions we provide. The care instructions can also be found here.

Cost

Brow lamination: $90
Brow tint: $25
Lash tint: $35
Brow wax: $20

Number of Treatments

Most will see those beautiful brows last for 6-8 weeks after a lamination, depending on how they are cared for after the appointment.

Brow lamination pairs well with:

Eyebrow tint

Lash tint

Brow wax

    • Do not use brow growth serums for 3-7 days before your treatment.

    • Do not use Retin-A, Retinol products 3-7 days before your treatment.

    • Avoid plucking, tweezing, sugaring or waxing.

    • Arrive with no makeup on, or be prepared to have it removed by Sara before treatment.

    • Do not tint your brows within 3-7 days before, it is best to tint them 1 week after your treatment.

    • Our brow specialist, Sara, will gently clean your skin area, and then she will use a primer that helps prepare the brow hairs for the treatment by making the brows super soft so it is easy to shape them.

    • Then a lifting serum is applied to the brow hairs. The processing time for this depends on the coarseness of the hair and how much the direction of the hair needs to change, but it is typically around 3-4 minutes.

    • Then a fixing serum is applied to help give your brows their new shape. The brushing is done gently so as not to irritate the skin.

    • Once the specialist has shaped your brows to the desired look, she will review your home care regime to ensure you maximize the length of time to preserve your beautiful brows.

    • Do not rub, pick, or scratch the treated area, as picking can cause trauma to the hairs and force them out of alignment

    • Do not get your brows wet- no use of pools, saunas, steam rooms, hot showers and/or hot baths for 48 hours

    • Do not get your brows sweaty -any dampness can produce poor results, so take it easy on the cardio for 48 hours

    • Do not apply makeup to the brows for 24 hours

    • Do not apply self tanners on the face for 48 hours

    • Do not use Retin-A, Retinol products for 3-7 days after your treatment

    • Wait 48 hours, then each day comb and apply the Brow Balm with a spoolie brow/lash brush

    • Understand that your brows were chemically treated and may feel dry.  The Brow Balm will help to condition your brows.

    • Avoid using chemical skin exfoliants or oily products right on the brows/forehead area very close to the brows. Use of these products will cause premature breakdown of the brow lacquer.

      • Examples of products to avoid may include but are not limited to: Glycolic Acid, Hydroquinone, Retinol, Retin A,Vitamin C, Basically, avoid all “peels” or “oily” products along the brow area

What to expect from brow lamination

Brow tint at Essentials Medi Spa is a perfect add-on service.

Enhance your eyebrows by having a brow tint treatment at Essentials. Brow tinting is when a semi-permanent dye is applied to your eyebrows to help define and shape your arches. A tint will help your brows look thicker and youthful and can be done as a stand-alone treatment or paired with brow lamination to maximize the results for both treatments!

Eyebrow tinting works on different types of skin and hair colour, although tinting grey or white hair is more difficult. The tinting procedure is quick, appointments are only 10-15 minutes and can be added to a facial appointment.

Essentials Medi Spa also offers lash tinting and brow waxing. If this is of interest, we ask that you book your appointment time with all services included to ensure we have enough time to fulfill your aesthetic goals. Book a free consultation or call us before your upcoming treatment to ensure we have enough time booked.

Note: Brow tints are done 1 week after your Lamination.
