I would like to get rid of my oversized breasts so I can have a more masculine looking chest. I have tried to get rid of them through diet and exercise but nothing seems to be working. Why are my breasts so big and what can be done to remove them?
Why Do Male Breasts Develop?
Male breast development, also called gynecomastia can happen from the use of medications, it can be caused by hormone changes during puberty, it can happen from marijuana or steroid use, and sometimes there is no particular cause.
What Procedure Can Be Performed To Correct This Problem?
Gynecomastia, or male breast development is best treated by surgery. Typically the surgery is a liposuction procedure, an incision is made around the areola — the dark skin around your nipple — and the excess fatty tissue is removed. But sometimes there is thickened tissue that liposuction alone cannot remove so the breast gland needs to be removed by surgical excision.
Usually, male breast reduction surgery is a combination of liposuction and surgical breast gland excision. Dr. Brooks will determine which option is best for your unique needs.
When Can I Return To Light Duties At Work?
You can return to work and light activities within 1 week of your surgery. Every patient’s situation is unique, Dr. Brooks will give you specific post-operative care instructions at the time of your consultation.
