Should I Get Round or Teardrop Shaped Breast Implants?

Updated: May 11, 2023

The number one goal in breast augmentation surgery is creating a breast that looks naturally beautiful. This can be achieved through specialized surgical techniques and breast implants that are custom fit for your unique needs.

The good news is there are many breast implant options to choose from and the great news is you don’t have to deal with the stress of selecting them. Dr. Brooks will determine the best implant option based on your existing measurements and desired aesthetic results. You won’t have to worry about a thing.

The Shape of Your Breast Implants

Breast implants are available in two distinct shapes, they can be round or teardrop. Each implant is designed with specific measurements that result in a beautiful shape and natural form.

Teardrop Breast Implants

Teardrop implants are pre-formed in a shape that looks like a teardrop. They will always be fuller at the bottom of the breast than they are at the top. This implant is extremely useful for patients who have droopiness, tightness in the lower part of the breast or tuberous breast deformity. Teardrop implants can stretch out a tight lower pole of the breast because they have more volume at the base of the implant.

Round Breast Implants

Round implants are perfectly circular in shape. When standing upright, the naturally occurring gravitational force brings the bulk of the implant to the base of the breast, however they are designed to maintain more fullness at the upper part of the breast. The natural amount of gel inside round implants moves freely as the breast moves in comparison to the teardrop implants that stay formed in a teardrop shape.

What is the Major Difference Between Teardrop & Round Implants?

The major difference between teardrop and round implants is the bulk of the implant doesn’t move in teardrop implants, there is more fullness at the base of the breast below the nipple.

Round implants offer more fullness at the top of the breast above the nipple.

Whether your breast augmentation surgery includes a round or teardrop shaped breast implant, Dr. Brooks will ensure that your augmentation results reflect your aesthetic goals.
